Paul Wong, 29 and Ong Li Yen, 30

Paul and Li Yen met eleven years ago while studying at a polytechnic. “We were both in a uniformed group organisation (St. John Ambulance Brigade), and we were actively involved as Corps Officers,” says Li Yen.

Still, the pair did not hit it off until eight years later. “We started to get to know each other better through the numerous organisation projects and bonded over online messages, mah-jong sessions and roller-blading outings,” says Li Yen.

Paul proposed to Li Yen over dinner at the restaurant where they first dated. In front of all their friends during dinner, he surprised her by getting the waiter to serve her dessert with the proposal ring on the plate “Paul knelt down with a bouquet of flowers,” beams Li Yen. “And, of course I said “yes”!”

The couple had their wedding at SAFRA Mount Faber, Pioneer Spring Restaurant on 3 October 2009. Their bridal outfits are from My Bridal Room.

Jimmy Tan, 32 and Suzi Tan, 28

Although Jimmy and Suzi were colleagues, they did not have a good first impression of each other when they met. “I had quite a temper at work and often reprimanded Jimmy for not getting the correct info,” says Suzi.

However, things took a turn when the couple started having to work over-time. “My workload was very heavy, and I often stayed until 10pm,” says Suzi. Coincidently, Jimmy and Suzi stayed in the same area in Sengkang, so after work, they would travel home together. “That was when we started to know each other better, and I found that he's a very nice guy,” says Suzi.

After five years, Jimmy proposed to Suzi on her birthday during their romantic dinner. “When dessert came, he came to sit beside me and took out the ring,” beams Suzi. “He's a very shy person so I never expected him to propose in public.”

Bryan Aw, 33 and Zoe Lim, 29

Five years ago, Malaysian Zoe had come to Singapore to work. As she had no relatives or friends here, she often felt lonely and would spend time surfing the internet. Then, one day she chanced upon an internet social networking website and met Bryan. The pair chatted often, and Bryan offered to help Zoe whenever she needed any assistance.

A few months later, Zoe initiated a meeting with Bryan. “I wanted to treat him to a meal to thank him for providing assistance when I needed help,” says Zoe. After that first date, Bryan and Zoe became good friends and an inseparable couple.

Bryan proposed to Zoe with a Rosella diamond ring. “Familiar butterflies stirred in my stomach,” says Zoe. “The same butterflies I felt five years ago when Bryan held my hands and asked me to be his girlfriend.”

The couple held their wedding dinner at Peony Jade Restaurant on 31 October 2009. Their bridal outfits are from Lasposa Bridal House, Kuala Lumpur.
