MediaCorp Radio Class 95FM DJ, Vernetta had always wanted a garden wedding. And since her beau, software developer Wayne was English, they chose an “English Garden” theme for their solemnisation. "It was the perfect match," says Vernetta.

Running a wedding planning company – Eternally Yours – Vernetta got her colleagues all in the act for her big day. "It was great having my planners handle all the details," says the bubbly 36-year-old. "Plus, I know which vendors to go to, what to avoid and how to just enjoy the process." After nine months of planning, the couple tied the knot at a garden ceremony Rider’s Lodge in Bukit Timah.

That day, 25 July 2009, the manicured carpet grass lawn was bustling with 200 excited guests. Surrounded by towering trees under a cloudless blue sky, the wedding had a two-piece violin and cello duo filling the air with popular Beatles’ songs.

When the couple marched down the aisle, which was lined with Zen brown boxes adorned with pebbles and glass vases, guests blessed the newlyweds with a shower of petals. "I made green paper cones with a special stamp cut-out for a Victorian feel and placed the white petals inside," adds Vernetta.

To keep everyone cool under the blazing sun, each guest was given a sandalwood fan and served refreshing juices, sparkling bubbly and delicious canapés from Picotin restaurant.

After the ceremony, everyone headed to St. Regis for a champagne dinner buffet. In keeping with the “English Garden” theme, the John Jacob Ballroom was elegantly decorated with cream and green hues. The happy couple made their grand entrance from different doors and met in the middle where a bar – bearing their monograms – were placed.

"It was nice to see our guests mingling and moving around the room. It felt like a party," beams Vernetta. Throughout the party, guests enjoyed touching speeches and special surprise performance from celebrity friends including Nicholas Lee, Sheik Haikel and Esan Sivalingam. There was also a video montage made by Vernetta. "It was the most tiring yet satisfying thing I did for the wedding. The montage included many of our guests at the wedding and one of my favourite songs by Gavin Friday," she says.

To commemorate the happy occasion, guests took home glass tea-light holders with battery-operated tea-lights. “We also gave the ladies oriental Chinese slippers because we knew their feet would hurt by the end of the night,” says the thoughtful bride.

In all, the wedding was perfect for the couple. “I loved my dream gowns by Michelle Hui Min of Bridal Veil. St. Regis was excellent at accommodating our request for our champagne buffet dinner, my bouquet by Damien from Fleur Connection was unique and pretty, and everything was captured beautifully by Avenue 8,” says Vernetta. “Even our wedding cake , which was a gift from Ristorante Da Valentino, was perfect with its quirky topper.”

What the bride wore

Vernetta’s two gowns were designed by Michelle Hui Min of Bridal Veil. Tailored using ice pink silk duchess satin from Italy, the wedding gown was simple yet elegant with a scoop neck-line and long train. The figure-hugging evening gown was sexier with a plunging neckline, pinched waistline and trailing train.

Vernetta’s top three tips

1) Always do a list of must-take photographs to ensure that you have pictures of people who matter the most to you.
2) Recognise the important moments and really absorb them because they will go by in a flash.
3) Get a non-stretch outfit to help yourself gauge how you are doing in terms of weight. What you really want is to maintain your ideal size for your gown.
