TOP TEN WEDDING SONGS
Need ideas on songs to play for your big day? Two radio DJs get all mushy and misty eyed with us as they share their favourite top 10 tunes.

Tim O

TIM O
Currently hosts Home Stretch on Weekdays, 5pm to 9pm on Gold 90.5FM.
Fond of classic “emo” songs, Tim found the perfect home at Gold 90 F.M. His favourite movies are romantic comedies and his sense of humour is like pizza – The cheesier the better! Here are Tim’s top 10 favourite tunes to romance your love ones.

1. Shakin by Rooney
This is a great upbeat rocking number and perfect to launch the dinner sequence.

2. Once in a lifetime by Craig DavidShakin
If you believe in soul mates, you’ll believe that marriage is once in a lifetime. The song is beautiful and so are the lyrics. To be played when the bride walks in.

3. Isn’t she lovely by Stevie Wonder
No wedding soundtrack should be without a little Stevie. Isn’t she lovely? If not then why are you marrying her?”

4. Crazy for you by Madonna
Even before the vocals set in, the intro will give you goose bumps and palpitations. Warning – you may find yourself more in love with this song than with your partner.

5. Loving You by Minnie Ripperton
Many others have done their own versions of this classic. None can compare with the original in terms of voice quality. Hide the expensive China though. Minnie unleashes some crack-worthy notes in this one.

6. Easy by Faith No More
Lionel Richie did romantic magic when he introduced the world to this number. But why not give the wedding an edge with this version by metal rockers Faith No More? You might have some closet air-guitarists on the guest list.

7. I’m Yoursby Jason Mraz
This song made its rounds over the internet way before it was released as an official single. It makes the ladies swoon and the guys envious. Hand out lyrics if you don’t want it massacred. People tend to try and sing along.

8. Always be my baby by David Cook
I’d always been a fan of Mariah Carey’s version but in keeping things current, this would make an ideal (or idol) choice.

9. Till there was you by Beatles
It doesn’t get much more classic than The Beatles. Known for their toe tapping numbers, here’s a cute and romantic song with lyrics to match.

10. I Will by Ben Taylor
Originally done by the Beatles, the son of legendary James Taylor has adopted it made it his own. If only the title was “I Do”, you wouldn’t even have to exchange vows.

YASMINNE CHENG
Currently hosts Love Songs , from Monday to Friday, 9pm to 1am on Class 95FM.
Yasminne feels that songs are a great way to express your feelings when words fail. Plus, they are also great mood setters. Turn up the love and set the mood with Yasminne’s top 10 favourite hits.

1. Grow Old Along With Me by Mary Chapin Carpenter
A song that sums up what a wedding’s all about…two people making a promise to grow old together! There won’t be a dry eye in the house with this ballad!

2. If by Bread
A beautiful melody with meaningful lyrics and sung in such a simple heartfelt way…Another classic that will bring out the hankies and tissues!

3. It Had To Be You by Harry Connick Jr.
Harry Connick Jr.’s voice is gorgeous and this song has really sweet lyrics…it’s about choosing that one special person despite the possibility of “better” ones out there because that person is the only one for you.

4. L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole
The king of sentimental ballads needs no introduction…Nat King Cole’s velvety vocals never fail to set the mood at any wedding! This one’s pretty upbeat and would make a great march-in song or when serving the food.

5. Memories Are Made Of This by Dean Martin
There are actually several versions of this but I prefer this one because it’s so old school. The seriousness of the Dean Martin’s voice juxtaposed to the lighthearted lyrics “One girl, one boy, some grief, some joy, memories are made of this” make this a pretty fun song to play at a wedding! There’s also the Johnny Cash version you can check out.

6. At Last by Etta James
If you want something soulful and sexy, this is it! It’s feel-good and has beautiful lyrics like “At last, my love has come along, my lonely days are over, and life is like a song”.

7. Taking A Chance On Love by Renee Olstead
I love this jazzy upbeat saucy number! The lyrics are a little tongue in cheek…about taking a gamble on love and hoping it’ll pay off! Cute!

8. Luckly by Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat
A lighthearted duet about being lucky…lucky to have fallen in love with your best friend.

9. One Boy One Girl by Colin Raye
A sweet simple country song that tells of the journey of love for one boy and one girl. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to this song…the lyrics go “One boy, one girl, two hearts beating wildly…he smiled, she smiled, and they knew right away, this was the day they'd been waiting for all their lives”. Awww….how can you not melt at such sweet lyrics!

10. I Only Have Eyes For You by Rod Stewart
Rod Stewart’s cover of this classis is absolutely gorgeous! His husky voice really sets the tone for romance!
