Alvin Hung & Yasminne Cheng
“The humble telephone is a symbol of our romance because we spent our first year together apart — Alvin was working in New York and I in Singapore. Without it, I don’t think our relationship could have survived. The telephone also signifies communication, which is one of the most important things in a relationship, and that, we have plenty of.” - Yasmine

She’s the love guru on the airwaves, dispensing advice and playing all your favourite love songs. And now, Yasminne, the host of Class 95FM’s Love Songs (on weekdays from 9pm to 1am), is getting hitched to the man of her dreams. So what song will she play at her wedding party? “We’re thinking of going jazz,” beams Yasminne. “And because Nat King Cole’s I Love You For Sentimental Reasons is one of my favourite, so it’ll definitely be on the play list!”

How did you both meet?
I met Alvin six years ago through a close mutual friend. We started hanging out. There was a spark so we decided to see where it would lead.

When are you getting married?
We have not set the date for the solemnisation but the wedding dinner is on 17 January 2009.

How did he propose?
It’s quite a funny story. I chose the ring and it was made in Hong Kong (where his folks stay). Alvin’s mum called to tell me it was ready for collection. Since he was on a business trip, he could swing by to pick it up before returning to Singapore. So, I already knew the ring was on its way back.

When he came home, I dived right into the suitcase to find my ring. Unfortunately, I only found an empty box and was quite disappointed. Since I was determined to find my ring, he had no choice but to propose on the spot. He whipped out the ring from his wallet, knelt down on one knee in his ratty home tee and shorts, and declared his love for me.

Because it was so impromptu, he did not have time to rehearse or plan what he wanted to say, and being a man of few words, he started “errr-ing” and “ahh-ing” so much that I took pity on him and said, “Okay, okay, lah!” And that was that!

Where will you host your wedding?
We’ve decided to hold our celebration dinner at Shangri-La Hotel’s Tower Ballroom. The place is gorgeous and it is the right size, too. We like the private foyer and bar. Plus, I heard wonderful things about their wedding team.

What is your wedding theme?
The wedding’s still more than a year away so I’ve been lazy and haven’t gotten down to thinking about a theme but we definitely want it to be fun.

Tell us about your wedding plans? Nothing’s really been planned but we are considering having a super big table as the main table so all our family members can sit together like one big happy family.

What type of gown would you like to wear for your wedding?
I haven’t gone gown shopping. One thing’s for sure, it can’t be all lace because Alvin hates it. He thinks it looks like his granny’s tablecloth. But there’s still plenty of time, and I may be able to convince him if the right gown comes along and it happens to be full-lace.

With your busy schedules, do you face problems arranging your wedding?
With the wedding so far ahead, I don’t think planning it would be a problem. Alvin wanted me to have fun and

not get all stressed up and turn into a bridezilla, so we’ve engaged.

Complete thie sentence. “The most important aspect of my wedding is...”
For everyone to have a good time, including my husband and me.
