After five years of courtship, Sham proposed to Rachael as they were floating down Chao Phraya River, Thailand on a specially chartered cruise. “He arranged this whole cruise just for this marriage proposal,” beams Rachel.

While Rachael was enjoying the enchanting skyline at the front deck, Sham approached her from behind and dropped to one knee. “There were crew behind us prepared with a bundle of red roses and a bottle of Moet Et Chandon champagne. It was a little embarrassing as we both were tearing,” says Rachel, “But it is a night we will never forget.”

The couple chose Veranda Resort and Spa, Cha Am, Hua Hin, Thailand for their wedding venue as it had a private beach with a panoramic view of the sea. The venue also had spectacular architectures and landscapes, Rachael explains.

Decorating their wedding to blend flawlessly into the backdrop of the beach and sea, Sham & Rachel opted for a sky blue coloured theme. That day everything was drenched in pretty blue hues including the linen for the chairs and the wedding gazebo. Even the wedding cake was sky blue with chocolate seashells scattered around it.

Although Sham is a Director of Food & Beverage, ensuring a sumptuous yet balanced spread was no easy task. “The choice of food was decided and carefully thought out, considering the Thai guests and the overseas guests, with a blend of Thai and International favourites,” says Rachel. Not only were the guests of different tastes and cultures (Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore), they all belonged to the hospitality industry too, making it a challenging task for the couple.

The highlight of the night came when the lovebirds were pronounced husband and wife. Fireworks shot into the sky, lighting up the backdrop of the beautiful ocean, all this while Sham and Rachel took their first marital kiss. Guests were clapping and cheering profusely at this magical moment.

At the end of this splendid night, the couple received precious comments that they would never forget for the rest of their lives.

“Those who were married wanted to hold their weddings all over again. And single ladies told their boyfriends’ in envy and delight that they would want to experience something similar,” says Rachel.
